Mary SampsonI am a Hythe-based artist who works in photography and other media. This recent work combines my two loves; gardening and photography. It is a limited edition of photographs. printed on Art Classic paper. White Flowers focuses on the moment when the flower emerges from the background, where white touches white, evoking memory and transience and fragility. The other images here are from the series Out of Your Hands, taken as a commission for a local hospital. “Hands are a part of the body that we rely on for many things but tend to take for granted. With our hands we comfort, guide, cling, wave, clap, gesture, hold, reassure and support, as well as performing the hundred and one things essential to daily living. In Medicine they can be an indicator of both physical and mental health. I hope to evoke some sense of what it is to be a hospital patient, the joys and sorrows, the highs and the lows. We are all travellers in a strange land, what links us is our humanity and common experience.” |

IPSE is a loose organisation of independently-minded photographers who share a passion for photography, but who prefer to 'plough their own furrow'. IPSE acts as a support group for its members, providing talks, residential weekends, evening meetings and periodic exhibitions - all within an atmosphere of encouragement and non-competitiveness. |
